Expo 2025 Osaka is taking place from 13 April until 13 October 2025 on Yumeshima - an artificial island created in Osaka harbour. With the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, the Expo invites everyone to think about how to create a sustainable and socially just society. Within the three sub-themes ‘Saving Lives’, ‘Empowering Lives’ and ‘Connecting Lives’, each pavilion is also assigned goals from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which the country pavilions are expected to provide ideas and solutions for achieving.

„Everything in the German Pavilion is based on the idea of circularity, of a waste-free circular economy“, says the pavilion's architect, Christian Tschersich. Prefabricated, modular systems such as the steel foundation and wooden construction elements used in advance will continue to be used after the Expo.
