German Pavilion: Connecting Lives / C03-01
EU Pavilion: Saving Lives Zone / S07-01
Expo 2025 Osaka is being held from 13 April until 13 October 2025 on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka harbour. With its theme, ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, the Expo invites everyone to think about how to create a sustainable and socially just society. Within the three subordinated themes, ‘Saving Lives’, ‘Empowering Lives’ and ‘Connecting Lives’, each pavilion is also assigned some of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, towards which the national pavilions are expected to provide ideas and solutions.
„Everything in the German Pavilion is based on the idea of circularity, of a waste-free circular economy“, says the pavilion's architect, Christian Tschersich. Prefabricated, modular systems such as the steel foundation already in use as well as the timber construction elements will continue to be used after the Expo. The innovative materials used in the pavilion include fungal mycelium, clay and hempcrete.
