New Wayfinding System for Ostpark
Winding paths and dense shrubs: even for experienced walkers, it is not always easy to find your way around Neuperlach's Ostpark. This is now changing: as part of NEBourhoods, eleven new orientation boards are being tested in Ostpark – at all important intersections and entrances.
The aim is to find out whether and how orientation boards could help park visitors find their way around. The boards not only show your location on a clear map, but also point the way to the park's most important attractions. Viewpoints, playgrounds, sports facilities, toilets and more – everything is marked on the signs. In addition, there are tips for various walking and jogging routes as well as information on nearby underground stations and car parks.
The new signs thus not only offer better orientation, but also the opportunity to discover the many attractions of Ostpark. The design was created by Susana Frau, a designer from the pool of NEBourhoods creative professionals. It was particularly important that the signs were accessible: they are positioned so that children and wheelchair users can see them easily. With large, high-contrast colours and clear symbols, the signs enable all visitors to find their way around easily – even without extensive language skills.
The idea for the orientation boards came about in a joint workshop with Neuperlach residents, the MGS Neuperlach district management team, creative professionals and the NEBourhoods team. They were manufactured in the Munich MakerSpaceWerkstatt by UnternehmerTUM. In addition to EU funding, the orientation aid was half funded by the Neuperlach discretionary fund as part of the urban development programme "Growth and Sustainable Renewal" with funds from the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria, and co-financed by the City of Munich.
The boards will be tested for several years. Maintenance will be carried out by MGS Stadtteilmanagement Neuperlach from March 2025.
